Breast Implant Placement
Breast implant surgery is an exciting alternative for women who have never been completely satisfied with the appearance of their breasts. Once you have decided to pursue breast surgery, you should schedule a private consultation with Denver plastic surgeon, Dr. Nick Slenkovich to see before and after photos of patients who are of similar size and shape to you.
The placement of breast implants is generally done in one of two ways: submuscular and subglandular. Which method is the best choice for you should be decided by both you and Dr. Slenkovich.
Submuscular Breast Implant Placement
Submuscular placement of the breast implant involves placing the implant underneath the pectoralis muscle. About one third of the implant is placed behind the fascia, the tissue that connects the muscles of the chest. The fascia then acts as an internal support bra for the implant. This is Dr. Slenkovich's preferred method because it is the safest and offers the most natural-looking result.
Submuscular placement leaves the least chance for rippling or capsular contracture (hardening of the tissue around the breast implant) to occur. It also allows for much more accurate mammogram readings for women who have breast implants.
Subglandular Breast Implant Placement
Subglandular placement involves placing the breast implant beneath the breast tissue but over the chest muscles. This is a fast and easy method of placement that involves less recovery time. It requires only skin and fat to be incised, however there is more of a chance of visible rippling and capsular contracture around the breast implant.
The choices available to you once you have decided to have breast implant surgery are many and varied. Dr. Slenkovich is highly skilled and cares about your satisfaction with your surgery. The success of any cosmetic procedure requires honesty and strong communication between doctor and patient.
Dr. Slenkovich does not believe in comparing breast implants in patients who have completely different body shapes and sizes. This is why he shows patients before and after photos of other patients who are of a similar build to themselves.
